In the manufacture of chemical and petrochemical products, liquids are produced and processed which have a high corrosion potential for the piping systems transporting them. For this reason, austenitic and ferritic-austenitic steels are mostly used, so that even highly concentrated acids can be safely and continuously processed.
In the production of foodstuffs, on the other hand, stainless steels are preferred because these materials are naturally germ-free and easy to clean. In addition, stainless steel can be easily formed and welded. They are electrically conductive and can be used at both low and high ambient temperatures.
